The Truth Behind the Photos #1

The Truth Behind the Photos[The Northern Lights were not at all what I had expected – read on for the truth behind my experience]

I thought it would be super fun to pick some pretty/epic looking (or just lame but maybe I have good stories ok??) travel photos and tell you the honest truth behind what was actually happening behind the scenes.

Because we all know that with Instagram and all those other social media platforms that are full of lies, it can be kinda disheartening sometimes.

The Time I Met Two Strangers & We Went Hitchhiking

I went hitchhiking in Ireland with 2 strangers and it was awesome

So let’s do a real quick #tbt to two summers ago (ugh was it really that long ago, brb, gonna go cry my eyes out and maybe teleport there real quick…), when I was gallivanting through Ireland and just basking in the Irish-ness of it all.

I’d thought about hitchhiking (seemed like a cool way to meet people and have some unique experiences) but I was like ahhhhh I’m a solo female traveler and that. Is. SCARY.

Sometimes, Travel is a Total Shit Fest

Sometimes, Travel is a Total Shit FestOkay, so I wouldn’t describe my recent trip to Arizona a shit fest per say, but. There were definitely some hiccups. And hiccups that I couldn’t just scare away ya know.

So, to start off, getting to and from AZ was A MISSION. Just LET ME TELL YOU.

So, we left at like 2PM meaning we drove almost all damn night and didn’t arrive until 3:30AM.

SO FUN RIGHT.

Lots of gas station stops and some casual peeing-on-the-side-of-the-road stuff too. Because we gotta keep it classy AF up in here.

And then we slept in the parking lot of Horseshoe Bend until sunrise. Ok well – a little after because we were so so damn sleepy.

Oregon is More Than Just Portland

Clearwater Falls on the waterfall highway in Oregon[Clearwater Falls on the “Waterfall Highway” was so damn pretty]

But Portland is pretty freaking cool, too.

Oregon felt like the American version of Ireland. I haven’t been to Washington yet (jk I just got back from Seattle), but I’m guessing it’s Oregon on steroids to the max.

"Welcome to Oregon" sign coming in from the California border[Driving into Oregon from California]

OKAY SO. OREGON.

I’ve been wanting to visit the good ol’ (rainy) PNW for freaking ever. I love green things and I think I have the opposite of the typical SAD (seasonal affectiveness disorder) in the sense that I feel sad if there isn’t enough rainy/cloudy days during the fall and winter.

Don’t get me wrong, I dig the sun, but my favorite weather is grey, cloudy days. Everything just seems more magical and epic and I feel so inspired to create and be creative. Anyone else feel the same??? Or am I alone in my love for all things NOT sunny?

My 10 Favorite Destinations of 2017

10 Favorite Destinations of 2017[Freezing to death in Yosemite this past February]

Are you even a travel blogger if you don’t do some version of this list???

I just had to hop on board…And I also just like talking about the places I’ve visited, so…Here we go!

2016 was pretty hard to beat, travel-wise, because I moved to Flagstaff for three months (which I absolutely LOVED) and got to see a ton of Arizona through projects/exploring while in the conservation corps; then I went to Europe for 1.5 months and explored Israel, Greece, Ireland, and Belgium, and then Costa Rica for 10 days! Soooo it was pretty fuckin great.

2017 was still awesome, just a lot more local, especially since I had a job that I was sticking around the Bay Area for.

And so, here are my favorite destinations from 2017.

California Bucket List: All the Places I Want to See in 2018

Car driving down a road with mountains in the background - This list is a California travel bucket list[Driving on a random road in Arizona]

Okay so these are things I’ll most likely cross off in the next year (so they’re basically ALL in California).

Mainly because making a legit bucket list makes me cry because I want to go to places like Iceland and Kyrgyzstan and it’s not likely gonna happen right now at this very exact moment because of that whole 9-5 life. So here’s some California bucket list (in the form of weekend trips) inspiration!

Visiting the Land of Leprechauns: Ireland

grassy hill with stone fences and houses on slea head drive in ireland[Scenery from Slea Head Drive – read on for more info on that!]

Ireland is soooo much more than Dublin! When I hear that people only went there it literally pains me (especially because I was not the biggest fan of Dublin).

I’d say spend like 2-3 days in Dublin (depending on what you want to do) and after that get the heck out of there! IMO it’s overpriced and overcrowded with tourists (especially Temple Bar area – avoid at night at all costs!!!!).

And also – yessss I’m that girl that went to Ireland a year ago and is STILL talking about it. Ugh. But if you read on, you’ll understand why…And also, why not start off with a bang with one of my favorite places ever?

Want to learn more about the logistics of getting around, currency, where to stay, etc.? Go here.
